Violinist Laufey Sigurðardóttir completed a degree in solo performance at the Reykjavík College of Music before continuing her education abroad. She studied under Professor G. Neikrug in Boston as well as in Europe, including in Italy and with A. Grumiaux in Belgium. She has been a permanent member of the Iceland Symphony Orchestra since 1980 and taught at the Reykjavík College of Music for thirty years. Laufey has performed as a soloist with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, the Reykjavík Chamber Orchestra, the Icelandic Orchestra, and the Oslo Sinfonietta. In addition, she has held independent concerts across Iceland and abroad, performed chamber music, and for several years been involved in the Music for Everyone project along with guitarist Páll Eyjólfsson. Laufey has debuted a number of pieces composed especially for her and also performed for recordings. She has organized Music in Mývatn County since its inception in 1998, and since 1997 she has overseen the annual Mozart Anniversary Concert hosted by the City of Reykjavík.
